A Gospel-Centered Community

By Caleb Hong, Spiritual Life Division Head

What are you living for? What makes us (LCA) different? Do you see a Christian school in LCA?

I want us to consider our mission statement: “Lexington Christian Academy is an independent college preparatory school that exists to educate young men and women in the arts and sciences in the context of a complete commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” What then is the gospel?

We could list off a bunch of Bible verses and tell the story of Jesus, his death, and resurrection. But the gospel is so much more than that. Paul says that “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes”. So the gospel is power.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

because the Lord has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives

and release from darkness for the prisoners,

2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor

and the day of vengeance of our God,

to comfort all who mourn, – Isaiah 61:1-2

This is the gospel. What would it look like to live in a community that is completely focused on the gospel? I want our school to be an embodiment of the gospel, a school worth emulating. A school filled with the Holy Spirit and power.

So I ask again. What are you living for?
