Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. – Galatians 6:2
What is the law of Christ? Love. One of the most important parts of being a Christian is fellowship and community. One cannot be a Christian by themselves; they need to be connected with the body of Christ. God did not create people to be alone; he made them in pairs and told them to multiply and fill the earth. We can trust each other and help each other. If we are going through a hard time, our friends and family will be there to help us through. When we are happy, they will be there to celebrate with us. In the same way, we are there for them when they need us, whether we realize it or not. But often we choose to hide, or ignore the needs of others. We hide behind “I’m fine” or we see the smile on their faces but not the eyes that seem empty. I’m more guilty of this than anyone.
What then should we do? I have a challenge that goes along with the PIG chapel a few weeks ago. One of the things that I think our society shies away from is looking other people in the eye. For some reason we tend to get embarrassed and look away. It’s a small thing, but try to look people in the eye when you’re talking with them. See the person and how they are. Then, hardest of all, love. Unconditionally.
